The Blackmagic Design Video Assist 7" 12G HDR is the flagship model of the Video Assist range, bringing professional monitoring and recording together in one powerful package. Mounted on any HDMI or SDI camera, it records directly in ProRes or Avid DNx across a wide range of formats, ensuring seamless compatibility with leading editing software such as DaVinci Resolve. Compared to the 5" series, the 7" 12G HDR not only features a larger screen but also includes two microphone inputs with phantom power and two SD card slots instead of one. As a 12G HDR model, it offers faster 12G-SDI and Ultra HD connections for all formats up to 2160p/60, along with a super-bright HDR display, a locking power connector, and the ability to capture RAW footage from supported cameras.

The Blackmagic Video Assist 7" 12G HDR delivers professional monitoring and recording with the flexibility to adapt to any production. A customisable touchscreen interface provides HDR scopes, recording and playback controls, and advanced features such as focus peaking, zebra, and 3D LUTs. A front speaker allows instant clip playback, while a rear tally light clearly indicates active status during takes. Connectivity is thoughtfully designed, with all ports – except the USB-C computer connection – conveniently positioned on either side of the monitor. High-speed UHS-II SD card support ensures smooth recording at top quality, When working in SDI formats, users can record two, four, eight, or 16 channels of audio. Weighing just 825g, the Video Assist is suprisingly compact and portable, with optional clip-on batteries enabling wireless operation. It is also possible to live stream in full 1080p HD quality.

The muts nuts

I have had the 5" 3G and this 7" 12G. The 3G is worth it just for colour accuracy alone. This 12G is an absolute beast and with current firmware updates now does 1080p 120FPS and 8K 30FPS. Complete animal. Even has pro level preamps. It's a game changer.

Brilliant bright image, great recording options, sturdy design
Needs calibration options, and the headphone jack doesn't have the cleanest output, but good enough for on set monitoring

Only issue is delay from sensor to image, but that is from the camera, not the monitor
