Arranger workstation with Genos DNA

Yamaha PSR-SX720+, arranger keyboard for professional live performances

The Yamaha PSR-SX720+ is a 61-key arranger workstation that brings technologies derived from the flagship Genos2 platform into an instrument built for performance, arranging, and composition. A step up from the PSR-SX620, its AWM Stereo Sampling engine delivers 1,377 instrument Voices, 56 Drum/SFX kits, 480 XG Voices, and 450 accompaniment Styles, all supported by 128-note polyphony and Super Articulation technologies, Crossfade Portamento, and expanded Style processing. Rather than simply providing ready-made backing patterns, the PSR-SX720+ gives performers real-time control over the sound, dynamics, and arrangement of their virtual backing band. A 61-key FSB keyboard with adjustable touch response, 7" colour touchscreen, assignable controls, and integrated speaker system make it equally suited to home practice, songwriting, rehearsal, and live performance. The plus in the model's name reflects the fact that the PSR-SX720 has now been updated to included Bluetooth 5.0,, allowing backing tracks and other audio material to be streamed directly from mobile devices.

Authentically articulate

The PSR-SX720+'s extensive Voice library covers acoustic and electronic instruments from a broad range of genres. Super Articulation+ and Super Articulation Voices reproduce characteristic playing nuances – guitar string noise, saxophone slides, and other performance details – in response to the player’s touch. Crossfade Portamento creates fluid pitch transitions between notes for lead sounds and melodic passages, while Organ Flutes provide dedicated control over organ sounds and rotary‑speaker characteristics. Voice Edit allows sounds to be tailored directly from the touchscreen, and the factory library can be expanded via approximately 1GB of dedicated Voice expansion memory, with additional Voice and Style Expansion Packs. Yamaha's Expansion Explorer app provides a central platform for finding, previewing, managing, and installing new content across mobile and desktop devices.

The dynamic backing band

The PSR‑SX720+'s 450 accompaniment Styles provide complete backing arrangements that follow the player's chord changes in real time, with One Touch Settings calling up suitable Voices and effects. Style Dynamics Control goes further by allowing the intensity of the backing band to be adjusted during a performance – pushing the virtual musicians forward or pulling them back as the arrangement develops. Chord Looper records and repeats a chord progression, freeing both hands for playing, soloing, or operating other controls. Assignable panel buttons and Live Control knobs provide immediate access to frequently used parameters, while the joystick adds hands‑on pitch and modulation control for more expressive performance. These advanced performance features make the 720 ideal for solo performers at weddings, corporate gigs and the like. For still greater control and an expanded sound palette, the flagship PSR-SX920 sits at the top of the range.

About Yamaha

For decades, Yamaha has been one of the world's best-known manufacturers of musical instruments and audio technology. The Japanese company's long history began at the end of the 19th century with the harmonium. The product range has constantly expanded since then, which has made Yamaha one of the few manufacturers today to offer almost the entire range of existing musical instruments: From upright and grand pianos to guitars, wind instruments, and bowed string instruments and from drums and percussion to electronic keyboards and synthesizers. Yamaha is also a major force in the field of audio engineering as a manufacturer of mixing consoles, amplifiers, PA systems, and more. Yamaha's guiding principle is to combine traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology.

From preparation to professional performances

The Yamaha PSR-SX720+ is designed to keep the arranger workflow moving from song preparation through to the stage. The redesigned Playlist makes it easy to save, organise, and search for material, while eight Registration buttons allow complete setups to be recalled during a performance. Style Section Reset helps bring the accompaniment back into line after an unexpected timing change, without having to stop and restart the Style. A 16-track MIDI recorder – with Quick, Multi, and Step Recording – supports arrangement development directly on the instrument, while the separate audio recorder captures finished performances as WAV or MP3 files to USB storage. MIDI In/Out, USB-to-Host, Aux In, a dedicated Mic/Guitar input, and stereo line outputs cover studio and stage integration. Bluetooth audio input allows wireless streaming from mobile devices during practice or performance, while the 2×15W onboard speaker system makes the PSR-SX720+ equally practical as a self‑contained instrument.
