Best $377 I've ever spent!

I recently bought this piccolo trumpet to replace my Schilke P5-4MA that my daughter took with her to college. I've been playing professionally for over 30+ years and my daughter has taken my Schilke X3, E3L, P5-4MA, Bach Stradivarius 229 25R C trumpet and Bach Stradivarius Flugelhorn to College. Luckily I have other pro Bb an C trumpets but she has taken almost all my small trumpets. This Thomann piccolo trumpet is an exceptional instrument for the price. It does seem a little tighter than the P5-4MA. Having the correct mouthpiece is the key to all piccolo trumpets not just this one. I have played piccolo trumpets professionally for 30+ years. I play a Warburton 5S with a Ken Titmus KTCM Reverse Taper GG backbore. The Warburton H backbore is a similar option to the KT backbore. With the proper mouthpiece the quality of sound and intonation throughout the instrument is exceptional. I haven't found any bad notes. I do plan to play this professionally and I'm sure nobody could tell if I were playing this piccolo or the P5-4. That's how good the sound is. If you buy this instrument make sure you are playing a lead style mouthpiece with a shallow cup and a tight backbore. I'm sure a Schilke 14A4A, 13A4A, or 11A4A would work great with this piccolo. It also appears to be a well built instrument. Use good valve oil. I hope this review helps anyone who reads it.

I've also just ordered the Thomann 600 Flugelhorn and I'll let you know what I think as soon as I get it. I wouldn't have ordered it if I wasn't happy with this piccolo. In the future I will probably buy one of the Thomann Eb trumpets as well. I'm very impressed with the quality.

Good value for money

After sufficient research I purchased this Piccolo Trumpet with the intention to be able to play seasonal Baroque music. The instrument arrived much sooner that the website reported, which was a pleasant surprise. Having played on it for some days, the tone is very nice and intonation is excellent. The first concert went fine and tuning with co-Piccolo trumpeter worked very well. This instrument is very good value for the money, I would recommend it.

well, i've had this piccolo for about a month now, and just finished a week of les mis, and i gotta say, i love it.
the reviews are mixed, people losing sight of the fact that it's under £400, clearly it's not the best in the world, it's not a yamaha or a schilke, but then i'm not good enough nor busy enough to justify spending an enormous amount of money on a picc i'm only going to play once in a blue moon and then put it back on top of the wardrobe. but...
for me, the major selling point was the fact it has a trumpet lead pipe, so my usual mouthpiece fits just fine, making the job much easier - i don't necessarily hold with the 'different mouthpieces for different styles' thing, a 7C for these 16 bars, something else for jazz, something else for screamers, blah blah, find one you like and practice. my regular mouthpiece fits and i can play it without worrying.
the valves are great, bit of oil and a proper warm-up go a long way - no, you can't expect to just pick it up and play it, despite what i said about swapping mouthpieces, you've still got to find the centre of it - but it was ready to rock from day 1, all 4 valves smooth and quiet, well-centred, comfortable, absolutely no worries mid-show.
the intonation isn't absolutely 100% perfect (although it's pretty close), but i've yet to play any trumpet/cornet/flugel ever where it is. i would respectfully suggest that if you're a working muso that needs a picc you should be enough of a player to know where the warm spots are and adjust accordingly - you can't always blame the instrument, you're not a viola player. 'chops & ears' as someone used to say, listen to yourself and the ensemble and learn what to do about it.
the finish is flawless, bright & shiny, again the argument that a bright silver finish adds to the tone - my tone is pretty bright anyway, so the silver finish add a little extra zing to that.
in short, i love it, the les mis MD loved it, the flautist sitting in front me has rather more mixed views...
it's an excellent starter picc, if there is such a thing, and a pretty good upgrade if you need something better, i'd have no hesitation about turning up with it for any gig that required a picc, except brandenburg 2, like i said, i'm just not good enough, but the solo in the middle of "just haven't met you yet" absolutely sings...
