Cast off those cables!
With the BLX24/SM58 wireless system, the long-established manufacturer Shure haas created an affordable entrypoint into the world of wireless microphones. The analogue wireless system consists of a BLX2 handheld transmitter (fitted with the classic SM58 capsule) and the BLX4 receiver – the system transmits in an UHF frequency band that's licence-free in many regions. Thanks to their incredibly simple operation, the system's components are ready for use in no time at all. Internal antennas provide an impressive range of up to 100 metres, and the microprocessor-controlled antenna diversity continuously selects the strongest signal, allowing users to focus entirely on their performance. A total of seven compatible systems can be used simultaneously within a single frequency band.
Plug and play
The BLX4 receiver's Quick Scan function selects the best available frequency at the touch of a button, allowing the handheld transmitter to be synchronised quickly and easily, which simplifies setup, even with multiple systems. The device's key lock feature prevents accidental changes, ensuring reliable operation , and the built-in antennas guarantee consistent signal reception without the risk of misalignment or damage. Featuring jack and XLR outputs, the system offers flexible compatibility with a wide range of existing equipment. In most situations, there's no need to adjust the levels of the mic itself; however, there is an integrated -10 dB pad for very loud sources.
Speaking from experience
For almost 90 years, Shure has been manufacturing microphones, and this experience is evident in this handheld microphone, which is built around the mic capsule of a legendary stage classic – the SM58. Over the decades, this dynamic microphone has become a benchmark in live sound, having proven itself on stages worldwide with legends such as Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Sheryl Crow, AC/DC, and Bruce Springsteen. Delivering a natural, clear sound with excellent vocal presence, its cardioid polar pattern effectively minimises feedback, making it particularly reliable for beginners or in noisy environments: It's ideally suited for live vocals, audience interaction, speeches, announcements, DJ sets, clubs, and churches. If multiple systems are in use simultaneously, the handsets can be quickly colour coded.
About Shure
The American company Shure began developing microphones during the early 1930s and is one of the pioneers of the audio engineering sector. Models such as the 55 Unidyne – known to many as the "Elvis microphone" – and the SM57 and SM58 which appeared in the mid-1960s are still ubiquitous in live sound production today. They enjoy cult status among musicians and technicians alike. In the 1990s, Shure introduced the first wireless microphones and in-ear monitoring systems and became a market leader in this field. In addition to microphones, Shure offers a wide range of earphones and headphones for studio and live use, as well as various accessories.
More compatibility – for more flexibility and affordability
Whether it's an ad-hoc rehearsal space, an inner city nightclub, or a school sports hall – every venue comes with its own challenges, and the BLX24/SM58 wireless system takes the guesswork out of finding the ideal frequency. Once selected on the receiver, the group and channel settings can be quickly transferred to the handheld transmitter. The receiver is also compatible with other BLX transmitters, including the CVL lavalier, the PGA31 headset or the BLX1 guitar transmitter, allowing users to switch between different microphone types without having to change the receiver – they'll only need their chosen transmitter, keeping costs low.
