With the Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Mini, the long‑established German manufacturer has created a compact system for delivering immersive 3D sound in any setting. Thanks to Sennheiser's unique virtualisation technology, the AMBEO Soundbar can reproduce three‑dimensional audio that would normally require a full 7.1.4 loudspeaker setup. This is made possible by four integrated microphones that automatically calibrate the soundbar for the space it's in. In addition to connecting a screen or television via an HDMI cable to transmit audio through eARC, wireless connections can also be established. This not only enables a Bluetooth 5.0 link to the major digital streaming platforms, but also to devices compatible with the Google Assistant and Siri. Furthermore, thanks to the built‑in microphones, the soundbar can also be controlled via the integrated Alexa voice assistant.
The Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Mini is equipped with four 1.6" cellulose full‑range drivers and two 4" woofers, delivering a frequency response from 43Hz to 24kHz at an output of 250W. The AMBEO range was developed in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, ensuring that the technology is absolutely state‑of‑the‑art for the best possible sound. The AMBEO|OS operating system is, naturally, built in; it measures the room's acoustics and optimises the virtualisation based on its size, reflections, and surface textures, so that the soundbar can be calibrated at the touch of a button. To further enhance its sound, there are internal presets that detect the type of content being played and activate automatically. In addition, speech intelligibility can be instantly improved, and there's even a night mode that keeps sub-bass to a neighbour-friendly minimum while ensuring there aren't any overly dynamic swings between whispered dialogue and huge explosions.
In order to allow users to combine the flexible enjoyment of films, music, and video games with optimal 3D audio performance, the Sennehiser AMBEO Soundbar Mini supports all the standard formats Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and MPEG‑H audio codecs, as well as Sony’s 360 Reality Audio. Digital streaming platforms are also supported, including Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, and AirPlay 2, enabling seamless Bluetooth integration into content ecosystems. Audio content can also be transmitted via Chromecast and AirPlay, provided external devices are used that support the Google Assistant and Siri. The AMBEO Soundbar can be controlled wirelessly via a smartphone or tablet using the Sennheiser Smart Control app, which can manage all the soundbar's functions, as well as carrying out updates to ensure everything always runs smoothly.
In June 1945, Prof. Fritz Sennheiser founded the Wennebostel Laboratory, which initially produced measuring equipment. Commissioned by Siemens in 1945, the young company developed the MD-1 microphone, which was launched in 1946. After the development of further microphones, the company was renamed Sennheiser Electronic in 1958. Two years later, Sennheiser introduced the MD 421 dynamic microphone, which is still in production today and still held in high esteem by many sound engineers. Further groundbreaking developments, such as the HD 414 headphones and the MD 441 microphone classic, hugely enhanced the company’s international reputation, eventually making Sennheiser one of the leading manufacturers of microphone and headphone systems in the world.
With a length of 70cm and a depth of 10cm, the Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Mini will fit in front of the TV on virtually any sideboard. An eARC‑capable screen or TV can be connected via the HDMI port on the rear panel. This standard allows audio transmission at up to 24‑bit and 192kHz, as well as uncompressed object‑based formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The four high‑end wide‑band drivers and the two integrated subwoofers are powered by a Class D amplifier for a powerful sound. For anyone who wants more bass, up to four optionally available Sennheiser AMBEO Subs can be paired with the soundbar – the connection is completely wireless.
Using the Smart Control app
It couldn't be easier to set up a new AMBEO Soundbar – thanks to the free Smart Control app. There's no need for complex measurement procedures involving external hardware or software: The Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Plus is equipped with four integrated microphones and an automatic calibration function that's simply activated in the app. The app also assists with the initial firmware update as well as the setup and pairing of the optional wireless AMBEO subwoofers. Operating of the soundbar, such as selecting sound profiles, adjusting sound settings, and choosing input sources, is also made virtually effortless with the help of the app.
