Not What Expected
janplaysbass 26.10.2026
I am a bass player, and bought the Stomp as I needed something to play a gig without an amp. After many years of playing in 5 different projects at the same time and lugging a pedalboard and amps around thought why not make life a bit more comfortable:) Now after a few weeks of using it here are my observations:

Pros:
- Definitely a very cool little tool. Packed with sounds, effects, and built solid.
- Very inspiring and fun, can go into endless sound creating rabbit holes.
- Good for standalone practice. I have a small baby, and practicing was a bit of a problem, and with the Stomp I probably spent more time playing in 2 weeks than in 6 months before.
- Works very well as an interface. Software is also free and pretty straightforward.
- sound quality pretty good! Some stuff better and more useful than other, but all stays above a certain level.

Cons:
- Live applications are kind of limited for me. I imagined it to be a bit of a replacement for my pedalboard and amps, but, unless you’re a ‘One or Two Tones/Effects Per Gig’ person you run into obstacles pretty quickly.
-While I thought the Stomp will eliminate my need for a pedalboard, it did quite the opposite. Firstly, it really needs some gear upgrades to really be functional: current doubler for the power supply to work without the provided Line6 one, extrernal footswiches to really be able to control it as you’d like. And actually the 8 blocks in the chain per preset sounds nice, but you run out of options pretty quick, once you put some basic stuff in there such a compressor, an amp, and EQ. Also if you want it to use the FX Loop Send and Return, you HAVE to put that in the chain as well. Which leaves you with 3-4 blocks left.
-The 4 modes…and 3 foot switches… this really annoyed me at first. The modes are useful, BUT some of the functions that you want mutually exclude each other. In one mode you can toggle your effects and have a tuner/tap tempo. BUT can’t change presets with your foot. Ok. Then in the other mode you can change presets, BUT no tuner. I found there’s no really fully functional mode (for live performance) without upgrading to more foot switches.

I’ve had moments of wanting to send it back. However I’ve decided that I just made a mistake in the purpose for which I bought it, and I feel like many people might do the same mistake. I think it’s a super cool tool, but DO NOT EXPECT IT TO REPLACE ALL YOUR GEAR (as I did, perhaps wrongly).

I see it now as a powerful tool to put IN THE MIDDLE of my board, to improve creativity, declutter it from some random pedals there, and to work as a Connector/ Driver between the sounds, with extra possibilities and functions. And while a bit annoyed and disappointed at first, now I’m
super excited about it:)

The HX Stumb was unusable as sent from Thomann (wrong powersupply for use in Denmark)
Bassman100 25.11.2021
I had to buy an expensive powersupply to be able to use the HX Stumb.
I've bought Amps and other stuf from Thomann and never had this failure before.
The HX Stumb works as expected with the right powersupply.

Buzzy Product
cnsound 12.12.2019
Easily generates buzz noise.
I?m assuming that is related with ground loops. Several people complaints about it at Line6 forum

Sold it and got an Fractal FM3
AlesT 19.01.2021
Had almost all LINE 6 products since 1996...
Liked them since I've first heard Fractal III. Also had Kemper (twice, FA II etc.).
Since the FAIII all of them (Kemper, Helix) seems like a plastic toys to me...
The FAIII is a hughe step forward in sound, feel, touch response etc. I have even sold my Friedman amps because of FAIII.
