Balanced and rich tone
This set is still breaking in, but I can say even now, that this is a very balanced set of strings and very high quality. The tone is very harmonically rich, and very even throughout. The trebles are the main star of the show for me, the CX carbon trebles are so sweet. The bass is a little bit reserved volume-wise, but I changed from Savarez cantiga premium basses which were unreal in volume and punch in the basses. In comparison to those the volume is reserved for sure, but overall a more balanced experience. However you cannot get bad sound out of this set, more forgiving than anything so far, even is you pluck the bass with the wrong angle with nails only it does not become harsh or tinny sounding. The trebles are bright for sure, but the bass is very complementary, and natural - their explanation on the package is spot on. Not fundamental heavy, lot of overtones, projection. Only negative is that it could be louder though just a tiny bit. But the sweet sound is definitely worth it. Suprisingly easy to play, it's hard tension but a lot easier to play than the mixed tension (high bass, mid trebles) Savarez 510MRJP that I had on before. Intonation is spot on, and this settled the quickest for me so far after changing strings. Slurs are nice, almost as nice as nylguts from Aquila, but since it's carbon you have to work the vibratos a bit more. The trebles has a tendency to pop the melodies so easily, surprisingly natural to accentuate the melody and tame down the harmonies on the B and G strings to let the melody sing even more on the high e. Notes are well separated but the harmonic content gives a very coherent sound.
So pros:
- easy to play, still feels more medium-tension like
- sweet, harmonic rich, has a certain shine and brilliance to it
- never owerpowering, always balanced
- forgiving
- great intonation
- great projection
- zero tubbiness of the G string
Cons:
- not a lot, could be a touch louder
- you have to work the bass string a bit more to accentuate bass a bit more
Choose this is you prioritize sweet, natural sound of your instrument, if you like balance and ease of play while still be able to accent the melody nicely and you don't want to fight your instrument while still having a hard tension set on for maximum projection. Look somewhere else, if volume and punchy strong bass is what you're looking for, I suggest to check out Savarez cantiga premium line for that. If you are looking for even more colour and character then Aquila string might be a good fit.
This quickly became one of my favourites, I'll try the Actives later on to see if I could get a tiny bit more punch in the bass, but otherwise very happy with these. Quality strings.
