its alive
hard to pinpoint what it is about this unit but it is "on" always better then "off" AND you can compress the track to make it stand in the mix like it should, like more units do that but This one just makes me smile more. it adds rock i would say. I had an elysia (old series), fantastic, more precise, usable in every setting from to little to too much but it was too much of "just" a working tool where as this one adds the oempf while keeping the depth. Makes it sound another few percent more like i want it

Great diode bridge comp with great LvsR tracking
This compressor definetely has a sound and it is amazing - darker and very deep, fat, smooth and 3D. I disagree that it is noisy, well - noisier than some other type of comps, but still the noise floor is very good at all frequencies, for a diode bridge. The noise curve is nice. And it doesn't change much at all with different comp settings. Tried it with several groups of instruments and bus mixes, but decided to have it in parallel/together with other bus comps. It works well even with extreme threshold settings. Not the same with the attack, that, to me, everything under 2ms is toooo fast, but I also never tried it with single instruments for initial shaping and fixes..and in such scenarios it may be great with fast attacks too. I love the gain that brings even more, even at +10, while the L and R tracking is still perfect. I have it from ~3-4 years and decided to write a review (04.01.26), because I love it : )
I disliked the PSU and modded it. HA could improve their PSU, especially when not inside the unit..which may be worse if built-in inside (just one example - my 1st generation fireface 802 had problems, because of the internal smps, but I fixed it ages ago, including its isolation as well - used mu-metal sheets around it). I do prefer linear PSUs, anytime, but my own experience with smps proved that if the psu is smps - never build it inside the device. So, +1 actually here for Heritage smps.. and I didn't have to open the comp.
A very good colorfull comp with good L vs R tracking and priced very well. Sorry, Neve 😀 (& API)
btw, HA, I strongly disagree with your youtube video that smps are better than liner psus 😀
