I bought this for the high-pass filter alone (to use with a mic preamp without one) and this was the cheapest sweepable HPF I could find in 500 series for the price. And I was not dissapointed. The fact that it comes with a very useable 3-band proportional EQ (separately swichable in/out from the HPF circuit, thank you very much) makes the deal much sweeter. You can boost the lows and cut them at the same time, which works wonders for e.g. vocals. The slight resonant peak in the HPF is genious.
This is not a "high end N*v* inductor EQ" so if you want one of those, perhaps look elsewhere (and I have a couple so I can compare). But it is a very serviceable, clean-sounding and easy to use tool for many purposes, and it will not screw up with the sound. In fact, if I had a mixing console with this EQ on every channel, I would be a very happy man. Fully recommended!
The only gripes I have are:
- the mid-band knobs are all black, making it difficult to remember which knob to turn in a dim-lighted studio
- it has no eclosure, making it a bit flimsy (must be careful when attaching adjacent modules)
