The search for the right strings

A musician can spend their entire life searching for the right instrument – so finding the right strings should be made as easy as possible. After all, there's a genuine physical connection between players and their strings, which play a huge role in how an instrument feels. The DR Strings Dragon Skin+ DBS5-45 Coated strings are a medium-gauge stainless steel bass string set for five-string bass, made using high-quality materials and an ultra-thin coating. Thanks to DR's patented manufacturing process, they offer exceptional longevity, yet without introducing any unfamiliar feel – the strings are barely distinguishable from uncoated ones. For anyone looking to give their instrument a real boost in dynamics and volume, DR Strings is a strong choice.

DR Strings Dragon Skin+ DBS5-45 Coated

A patented coating

The technical design of the Dragon Skin+ DBS5-45 Coated strings is no simple matter; it reflects a very high level of engineering expertise. All but the very lightest strings are wound to ensure both a powerful tone and a comfortable playing feel. The way DR Strings puts this into practice is particularly well executed: The strings are built around a specially adapted steel core, which is wrapped with coated stainless steel. This process brings out the best qualities of the string. This version of the Dragon Skin+ offers a premium playing feel, along with a full, rich tone characterised by an open high and low end, and a noticeable increase in output compared to uncoated strings. Taken together, this combination can lift a bass to the next level.

An accurate core

Where conditions on stage might once have meant changing strings after each performance, the Dragon Skin+ DBS5-45 Coated strings keep going show after show. This is thanks primarily to their outer wrap; it's almost impervious to corrosion and moisture, while simultaneously contributing to the strings’ strong, clear resonance. The patented Coated Wrap Wire also ensures that the strings feel great, giving purists exactly the playing sensation they'd expect. But the Dragon Skins aren’t just cutting-edge on the outside: With DR's unique Accurate Core Technology, which applies almost microscopic locking grooves to the precisely milled steel core, the wrap sits perfectly within the string's architecture, resulting in a fuller tone and enhanced sustain. What comes through is a technologically refined string set that delivers across the board in both sound and feel – without compromise.

About DR Strings

Founded in 1989 by Mark Dronge – son of Guild Guitars founder Alfred Dronge – DR Strings is a US-based string manufacturer deeply rooted in a lifelong passion for music and craftsmanship. Drawing on decades of expertise, the family-run company combines premium materials, time-tested production techniques, and skilled artisanship to create diverse string sets designed to unlock the full potential of every instrument. This relentless pursuit of innovation and quality has earned DR Strings the trust of global artists, from Sting and Derek Trucks to Jared James Nichols and Bootsy Collins, making it a go-to choice for discerning musicians worldwide.

An improved experience

Alongside feel and tone, tuning stability is absolutely essential when it comes to strings. Here too, the American manufacturer DR Strings has come up with a smart solution. Accurate Core Technology strengthens the core and evens out natural irregularities, allowing it to form a more consistent bond with the stainless steel winding, which helps the strings stay in tune even when they're played hard. The Dragon Skin+ DBS5-45 Coated set is gauged .045, .065, .085, .105, .125, making it comfortable to play and well suited to standard bass scale lengths. Tunings down to Drop A can be handled with ease while maintaining a clear and defined tone. For lower tunings such as Drop C or beyond, a heavier set may be the better choice to maintain optimal playability and feel – there are many such sets from DR Strings in our shop. Ultimately, this string set is the result of careful research and painstaking production, with the clear aim of improving a musician's experience in every way a bass string can.

Taugen.

TL;DR:

Lohnt sich nicht
Wer sparen will nimmt unbeschichtete, wer noch mehr sparen will nimmt die mit dem "E" drauf.
