Guess the looks are not everything...
Been hearing about Black Beauties for some time now, even Geezer uses them so it was an obvious choice to try them.
Disappointed would be understatement.
To keep it short; coating sucks, it started to go off within first 15 min and after about an hour into jamm there was big portions missing above pickups. The pickups and body beneath looked like someone threw handfull of pepper there.
Next; output is ridiculously low. The quietest strings I've ever tried.
One good thing, they feel great under fingers (subjective) and even with coating mess you can still feel that DR quality.
But it's a big no for me.
I LOVE DR STRINGS, used Legend flats some years ago and now Lo Riders.
I play with my fingers so I can only imagine what would happen with pick.
If you play more subtile and easy, maybe they can serve you better than me.
Look great btw, give your bass a new personality. Cool if you have multiple basses to put on one just for occasional playing I guess.

Black is only for the looks and does not hold...
I was curious to try these on a JCBass and a fretless bass.
After one day on the JCB the black coating was gone on all strings were they touch the frets. The sound was ok, but a little bit light.
Tried them on a fretless, (apart from the white spots due to the frets of the JCBass) they look nice on a dark unlined fretboard. The sound was ok but also what you can expect from light strings.
The feel is a bit slippery and rough at the same time but you get used to that.
So concluding: they are nothing special, only for the looks.

Didn't live up to the promises
The strings sound pretty good, maybe a little thin, but right out the box they sound like week old strings (which I like), and stay that way for a long time.
They look really cool, but unfortunately the coating started flaking off after less than a month. Not really suitable for playing with a pick long term.
My biggest issue, however, is that the surface feels very coarse and almost sticky, much worse than regular rounds. Every time I do a slide up or down a string it feels like my finger will catch fire from the friction
Overall, they're solid, but I'll be going back to regular strings

Great look. just ok sound.
they look great and they sound amazing but the 1st string. It's opaque and useless for pops and slap. Kind of an expensive upgrade if you can't get a proper sound.

DR Black Beauties.
I?ve been a fan of DR Strings for many years. I?ve mainly used DR High Beams on all my Basses. I love the sound, very bright but not too much to make them sound harsh and they also last for ages.
Read a lot of positive reviews of the Black Beauties and thought I?d give them a go. A bit more expensive but worth a try.
First impression was they looked great on my Warwick Streamer 5 string. Found them quite rough compared to the High Beams and to my ears didn?t quite sound as bright. The black coating is meant to make them last longer but I don?t feel that they lasted any longer than my usual strings.
Glad I tried them but I?ll stick to my High Beams.

Hit and miss
I love the look of these strings but I have found them to be hit and miss. When they're good they're very good but when they're bad - forget about it!
