Good quality sound, but low output level

Output quality is good, but the level is low - I resolved this with an EQ / pre-amp bass guitar pedal. Not a problem, but could be an unexpected expense if you're not expecting it.
The pickup is relatively robust. I was having other work done to the bridge by my luthier so he fitted it at the same time - taking account of the approx. 1mm thickness.
Edit: several years on I can confirm the pickup is robust, it's been on and off my bass, and has been gigged for several years and is still going well!
