From the Pro X series

The beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X is a dynamic premium headset for studio applications that features an open-back, over-ear design and is part of the Pro X series launched by the company in 2021. Its new driver system was developed in Heilbronn (Germany) and delivers optimum sound quality, and the visually appealing ear pads ensure a high level of comfort – with the added bonus that they can also be replaced if necessary, as can the padding on the headband. The DT 900 Pro X has a single cable connection located on the left side, and users can choose between two removable mini-XLR cables – 1.8 m and 3 m long, respectively, and each equipped with a 3.5 mm stereo jack and a 6.3 mm adapter. Of course, the scope of delivery also includes the obligatory transport case.

Newly developed drivers

The beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X is characterised by its newly developed, highly efficient Stellar.45 driver system, which allows an extremely high level of playback quality with excellent spatial representation, a precise transient response, and a neutral sound character. All this of course makes the DT 900 Pro X far more than just a stylish headset for everyday use: It is also a precision monitoring tool for professional users. Its low impedance of just 48 ohms is also noteworthy, since this makes the DT 900 Pro X suitable for a wide range of applications and ensures a satisfying level of playback volume when used in conjunction with mobile devices.

Secure, snug, and comfortable

Besides delivering a pure-sounding, professional-quality signal, the DT 900 Pro X premium studio headphones are also very comfortable to wear, so “fatigue” won’t set in even when they are worn for extended periods of time. The padded spring steel headband with an optimum contact pressure of 5.3 N keeps the DT 900 Pro X with its replaceable soft velour ear pads perfectly in place during those prolonged sessions at the studio desk or mixing console. The DT 900 Pro X is therefore an interesting choice for sound engineers, musicians, and producers looking for a comfortable studio headset for mixing and mastering.

About beyerdynamic

beyerdynamic was founded in Berlin in 1924 as a manufacturer of cinema loudspeakers. In 1937, Eugen Beyer developed the DT 48, the first set of dynamic headphones, followed two years later by the M 19 dynamic microphone. After the Second World War, the company moved to Heilbronn, Germany, and now also has a US subsidiary with headquarters in Farmingdale, New York. Beyerdynamic's most popular products traditionally include headphones and microphones for both live and studio use, and the company also has a strong presence in the consumer and conference technology sectors as well as in the field of installation microphones, interpreter consoles, and tour guide systems.

For studio pros

The open-back design of the beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X means that the headset is less well-suited to use in the tracking room, since ambient noises are allowed to pass virtually unhindered and prevent the user from hearing the monitor mix without interference. On the other hand, however, the DT-900 Pro X is an excellent tool for assessing and editing music recordings in professional quality: The newly developed Stellar.45 drivers deliver a highly detailed signal with a neutral-sounding character, which means that all of the usual music production tools can be deployed with complete precision.

C
Overall great headphone with really neutral response, at least to my ears
Cofi 11.11.2021
I ordered both 990 and 900 pro x. I mainly listen to edm (literally everything from hardcore to ambient) and some jazz. I will try to compare the two as best I can. Also I am doing a lot of music production and play games from time to time.

Comparison:
Build
DT 900 Pro X - better and more solid build, feels a lot more premium

DT 990 Pro - definitely not cheap, but not on par with 900 pro x

Comfort/features
Note: with both headphones one of my ears touched the inner part of headphone which I didn't find annoying

DT 900 Pro X - just a bit more comfortable on head than 990 and pads are softer, more pillow like, a plus for detachable cable (didn't have any problems with it like some people do)

DT 990 Pro - more open and spacious, but feels a bit "too light" on the head, but it's definitely a good thing for longer sessions, also headband pad feels more premium on this headphone, but not as soft as 900 pro x

Sound:
As this is very subjective part, I will report differences observed between the two models

DT 900 Pro x: overall flatter sound signature - flat bass and better extension, more forward and detailed mids, a bit darker with a spike or two in treble which I didn't even noticed until started to play with EQ, but still could pick up more details than on 990. Sound is slightly closed in than on 990, but imaging and general sense of space is better

DT 990 Pro: more V shaped with emphasis on treble - more bass (less clean), distant/reduced mids, very strong relatively consistent treble, but too harsh for me personally. More songs were too bright than not. These are very open and have bigger soundstage, but also more confusing one (less precise).

Conclusion
I decided to go with 900 Pro x easily, they feel more premium and solid, works "out of the box" for me and don't need any EQ really (maybe just to tame those spikes in treble by a 3 db). Mixes translated a bit better. Tried it on some new mixes, as well as old ones. Do note that I'm a bit treble sensitive and DT 990 Pros are just too bright and mid recessed, so my mixes sounded darker than they should, also mids were too close for my taste.
Definitely recommending DT 900 Pro X

Hope I helped someone,
Cheers :D

C
SOUND !
CrimSound 09.11.2022
Somehow DT has packed in such excellent sound into a product at such a low cost relative to its competition, the comfort is spot on with suitable adjustment.

The cables provided are perfect for travel or longer length for desktop use and comes in a small but handy carry bag.

I have been using the headset for almost a year with little to no issue except unfortunately the head band piece that holds in the foam has come off/the glue seems to have peeled away, however Thomann has thankfully a great repair team who has helped me with a claim for a repair .

Overall the product has exceeded my expectations and is a great product despite my one issue!

Quality studio/gaming headphones
Ambitious Streamer 04.04.2022
The comfort on these puppies is unbelievable. My ears are super large but these headphones fit like a glove, the velour pads are so soft and comfy, the material feels premium and expensive. Sound wise, I got them connected to my Goxlr and they produce the best sound I’ve ever heard. Shuffling through my favorite songs and I’m noticing instruments I couldn’t hear before. Highly recommended.

The quality is phenomenal, and the comfort is excellent.
Other than that, the sound is excellent from a subjective point of view. It sounds colorful and alive. All of this while being very flat from an objective point of view. Great for mixing, great for music, great for gaming.

Everyone can get something out of this headphones.
