Plain plastic ring
You need to apply pressure with a tool not your hands! I did it first with my hands and it nearly came off after all the movement of the bass head. Just to be on the safe side the second time i applied some glue and i pushed with a screwdriver. Rock solid ever since.

More fiddly than expected, still useful
Best to install this with the skin off of the drum
you need to be careful with the alignment in the hole because once you've stuck one side down it gets a little harder to adjust. It came apart during playing the first time because the rear section wasn't secure properly
I had to redo it and force the inside/rear ring to click in to the back because the foam-backed sticky tape was keeping it from connecting properly. required far more force than it felt like it should but once it's in properly it's solid.
I pressed down hard on the inside edge of the inner ring with a stick, but it would probably be better with something with a hard edge, like part of a cymbal stand. tapping the stuck areas probably helps too
