Perfect for floor toms
Adrian866 30.10.2017
I'm using this on my 16" floor tom and love the sound I get - full, rich and deep.
Solidly built microphone, lovely build quality, though physically quite a large mic, and I can imagine this lasting for years and years of use.
I like it so much, I am going to buy a second one for my 14" tom to replace the Sennheiser I'm currently using.

Great punch and clarity for low-end instruments
cmsd 11.04.2026
I’ve been using the Audix D4 בעיקר on floor tom and bass-heavy sources, and it really delivers a solid, punchy low end without getting muddy. The attack is clear and defined, which helps the drum cut through the mix nicely.
Build quality is excellent, as expected from Audix — very sturdy and reliable for both studio and live use. It also handles high SPL without any issues.
Compared to other mics in this range, I find the D4 to have a more focused low-mid response, which reduces the need for heavy EQ later.

Overall, a great choice if you’re looking for a dedicated mic for floor tom, kick drum (secondary), or even bass cab.

Pros:
-Tight and punchy low end
-Excellent build quality
-Great for floor tom and bass sources

Cons:
-Slightly less versatile than some all-purpose dynamic mics

Good allround mic for low end audio sources
Anonymous 22.01.2016
I got this mic after watching some comparisons between a bunch of drum kick mics. Somehow this seemed the best sounding for its price, while not having exaggerated EQ. But since I'm recording a lot of metal, I felt I need a bit extra from the mic and am now waiting for the D6 to arrive, which is very popular for this music genre.
I might still use the D4 for close attack miking on the kick drum. I do like the sound on the high end.
