ABM 2506n Bridge

The nut off of my Fender Classic Player Jazzmaster split fairly recently and I bought a new brass nut for it, and decided that while I was at it, I would replace the rattly bridge.

The individual saddles come blank, no filing having been done, which was almost a blessing because it meant I could spend time making sure each one would fit the strings I was using really well and comfortably. The provided bridge posts screwed straight into the thimbles, so I didn't even have to pull those out and replace them and it was a perfect and snug fit. The measurements were perfect and there is no room in the holes on the bridge itself to rattle around atop the bridge posts.

Once restrung, I could immediately hear that my rattling problem was a thing of the past, the saddles on this bridge are locked in tight, and will not move around. They do move smoothly along their screws when intimating though as well!

What's more is that the bell brass that it is made of definitely adds a pop and sparkle to your guitar sound, a very beautiful characteristic resonance. I feel I got more than what I paid for, which is a good feeling as I was apprehensive about the price tag. I understand why people will put down the money for hardware, because it takes your guitar maintenance and sound to another level!

Will buy again when I have another T.O.M. equipped guitar!!

Eines vorweg:
Die Verarbeitung ist Spitze. Der Gedanke an vibrierende Böckchen oder klappernde Schrauben kommt da garnicht erst auf. Die Verstellung mit den Schrauben geht leicht sähmig schwer und exakt.
Die Brücke paßte perfekt auf die vorhandenen Bolzen. Ich hatte diese Brücke im Austausch für meine klappernde und scheppernde Zinkdruckguß-Brücke meiner Archtop Vollhollow gekauft. Nach der Montage und dem Stimmen der Saiten, einstellen der Saitenlage und Intonation, mußte ich aber enttäuscht feststellen, daß die neue Brücke erheblich die Höhen, die Brillanz und die Dynamik wegschluckte. Als Gegenvergleich noch mal die Arbeit gemacht und die alte Brücke wieder montiert. Nun waren die geliebten Höhen und der Klang wieder da.

Der Grund wurde dann schnell gefunden:
Die Zinkdruckguß wiegt ca. 57 Gramm, die neue aus einer Bronzelegierung satte 74,8 Gramm. Eine Menge Masse die, und ich betone auf meiner Gitarre, die Schwingung meiner 011er Darco-Saiten im Höhenbereich ausbremste.
Da die verarbeitung der ABM aber so überzeugend war, entschloß ich mich zu dem entscheidenden Schritt:
Mit meinen Möglchkeiten als Feinmechaniker fräste ich unter der Brücke das Gewicht auf glatte 55 Gramm. Zwei Gramm leichter als meine alte Druckguß.
Noch mal neu montiert, Saiten gestimmt, Saitenlage und Intonation eingestellt. Was soll ich sagen, seitdem kriege ich das Grinsen nicht mehr aus dem Gesicht. Der klangliche Zugewinn ist einfach überragend, die Gitarre singt süß und süffig. Überschlagende Töne bringen ein ganz neues Klangspektrum. Ich hätte nicht gedacht, daß eine gute Brücke derart die Eigenschaften der Gitarre verbessern kann.

Hat sich die Ausgabe dafür also voll gelohnt.

Qualité habituelle chez ABM.
Monté sur une Epiphone LP Standard 50s', après un cordier ABM 3020n en bronze également.
L'équipement d'origine (blocs en zinc, vis et inserts acier, pas mieux chez Gibson) est sans reproche.
Mais là on est est un bon cran au dessus.
Plus large qu'un "Nashville", plage de réglage d'intonation plus importante.
Pas besoin de pontets inversés côté grave.
Pour info 75,1 g contre 45,9 g pour l'origine (chevalets seuls).

Si ça change le son ?
À mon avis oui, avec plus de richesse harmonique, un sustain toujours interminable et certainement pas un "excès de basses".
Je trouve que mon P90 Phat Cat en position manche a gagné en clarté, les autres combinaisons ne sont pas en reste.
Je serais presque tenté de remettre le Probucker1 manche pour entendre ce que ça donne.

Sur le plan pratique j'ai dû garder les douilles d'origine car les ABM ont un bon mm de moins en diamètre.
ABM ne donne aucune info sur les dimensions extérieures des douilles ou inserts, pour les chevalets et cordiers.
C'est quand même important pour prévoir les compatibilités et les travaux à faire !!!
Pas bien pour un fabricant spécialisé en seconde monte haut de gamme.
ABM : longueur enfoncée 22,5 mm; diamètre à forer 11 mm; collerette 15 x 1,5 mm.
Pour les pontets, j'ai amorcé les crans avec une lime à sillets, les limes aiguille ordinaires sont trop grossières et on se rate facilement (un pontet de rechange est fourni).

Ensemble cher mais satisfaisant sur une solid body de bonne qualité.
Sur un corps creux je serais tenté par la version alu pour être plus "sur le bois".
