Why use coloured XLR cables ?
Gilo 891 29.06.2020
What comes largely in black and is ubiquitous to all of us recording enthusiasts ? Why XLR male to female microphone cable of course.
Why deviate from the primary colour ?
I would answer my own two questions by recommending an additional mix of coloured XLR cable to assist in quickly solving any problems in circumstances that can arise in tracing a rogue microphone where the setup has many cable runs and time is short. Which black cable is causing the trouble !! – well to me the introduction of a few coloured XLR cable runs is the answer. I use some yellow, blue and red ssnake cables to make life easier. It looks nice as well when drooping elegantly down the microphone stand and might impress the onlookers in a live recording situation ; but that is just showing off as the quality is the same.!
I would give the product a five star rating but I should really wait say three years to see cable has any long term faults which would seem unlikely given inspection of it.

Failed after 6 months

I have a number of these, in different colours, handy to be able to find my leads at the end of the gig. Needed to extend the monitor at one gig, so plugged this in and it didn't work, tried another one, it did, threw it in the bag and forgot about it. Today I tested them on the cable tester and this was shorting and intermittent. Opened up the cable and I know at these prices they are presumably produced by people who are not that skilled and don't care, but it really shows. The insulation was way back so the conductors were touching, the soldering was just a blob on the pins that didn't really hold the 3 strands of cable left in well, and frankly it looked worse than one i saw that was soldered by a drunk guitarist in a hurry at a gig. I will be checking the others and redoing them now.

Perfect for personal use
Gaborin 17.09.2020
I bought this cable to use it for rehearsals with my band.
It is quite sturdy. As long as you use it with care, it is worth buying.
I like the bright colour. Using several colours in a setup is practical when you want to differentiate the cables (between the amps and pedalboard, between a pedal and a microphone, etc.)
I think that you could get a better quality for a professional use, but I'm happy with it.

Beware the connectors
Yassan 13.03.2019
I use this cable and a similar blue one in "domestic" sets, about once per week.
The cable itself is a bit stiff, therefore not easy to wind properly, but I'm fine with that.
I was a bit more disappointed by the connectors. One year before I bought two 10 meters version of the same item and, while the stiffness of the cable was similar, the connectors were fine. This time it was not so. I stopped using these ones with a couple of t-bone SC140, because I have the feeling that they wearere too "challenging" for the structure of the microphones; they are hard to insert and even harder to detach. Now I use the two SC140 with cables with cheap Neutrik connectors, and these ones plug in and out easily. I keep using this SM6YE and its SM6BL brother with a pair of Rode M5, which are tank solid and it feels they have no problems with the extra force needed.
