The ultimate compact, versatile console
The SSL SiX is a compact, professional-grade, 6-in/6-out, 100% analogue console designed for studio, post-production, live performance, and podcasting. Despite its size, the SSL SiX boasts impressive features, including two pristine "SuperAnalogue" recording channels, up to 12 channels of analogue summing, the iconic "G-Series" bus compressor, and highly flexible routing options. At its core are the two SuperAnalogue channels which feature the same preamps as SSL's flagship AWS and Duality console, delivering a whopping 66dB of gain, as well as SSL's signature "two-knob" compression and EQ. With a fully balanced signal path (excluding the headphone output) and features like two independent Stereo Foldback outputs, balanced inserts on the main mix bus, and a talkback channel equipped with the Listen-Mic Compressor, the SiX combines SSL's legendary sound and workflow in a compact – and affordable – package.
Versatile inputs and signal flow
The SSL SiX rivals much larger consoles in terms of features, connectivity, and build quality. Its professional layout, featuring SSL's signature colour-coded knobs, streamlines the workflow. The two SuperAnalogue mono mic/line inputs (XLR or 6.35mm) provide phantom power, DI, high-pass filtering, and a versatile dynamics section with parametric EQ (switchable shelf/bell modes) and G-series-inspired compressors. Two stereo input channels (6.35mm) offer level trim, balance controls, and access to stereo cue sends. Additionally, two external stereo line inputs can route to the main mix bus, expanding the total input count to 12. Outputs include five stereo paths – Main, Alt, Mix Bus B, and two Stereo Foldback outputs. A configurable cue system (pre or post-fader) handles foldback monitoring, effects sends, or direct recording outputs, ensuring seamless adaptation across various setups.
Endless routing options
The SSL SiX's flexible routing makes it an incredibly versatile tool for mixing, broadcasting, podcasting, summing, overdubbing, and of course tracking – while delivering pristine sound quality, generous headroom, transparent signal processing, and wide bandwidth. The EQ and compression section allows creative sound shaping, while the stereo bus compressor adds SSL's classic "glue" for cohesive mixes. The Stereo Foldback outputs, with level controls and source selection, can be used for headphone mixes, effects sends, or direct recording outputs. These features, combined with its rugged construction and rack-mountable format, make the SiX a reliable choice for small-scale setups or as the centrepiece of larger systems.
About SSL
Solid State Logic (SSL), is a renowned British manufacturer of high-end mixing consoles and hardware. It was founded in 1969 by Colin Sanders and is based in Begbroke, Oxfordshire. Initially the company developed transistors to control church organs, hence the name Solid State Logic. At the end of the 1970s they made huge advances in the domain of large mixing consoles with the 4000 series which pioneered the oncoming era of the ‘super’ consoles. Later, the 6000 and 9000 series also proved to be a great success and are still being used in countless recording studios all over the world. In 2005, Peter Gabriel and David Engelke took a majority stake in the company and then sold it to the Audiotonix Group in 2017.
Innovative features for tracking, mixing, and more
SSL has designed the SiX to excel across diverse scenarios, be it in studio production, live sound reinforcement, or complex broadcast setups. The Main Mix Bus supports up to 12 summing inputs, seamlessly handling mono, stereo, external, and cue sources. It features balanced inserts and a simplified G-Series bus compressor with a fixed 4:1 ratio, delivering that classic SSL compression "glue". Mix Bus B offers an alternative routing path with a rotary fader and mute control. In tracking mode, the phantom-powered Talkback can double as a third mic input, with its signature compression ideal for snare drums or guitar cabinets. Whether for live sound, post-production, or podcasting, the SiX’s pristine signal path and adaptable routing ensure professional results. Combining SSL's legacy of sound quality, intuitive workflow, and high-performance design, the SiX integrates seamlessly into modern audio production workflows, from studio recording and post-production to voiceovers, podcasting, and broadcasting.
