YA
good for the price

I bought this as my first snare and I got to say I am not disappointed. For the price it's sold at, I believe it's a good deal for anyone who is looking to build a rock drumset like me. I use some duct tape on it to achieve the sound I want, but doing that on the snared exactly as it arrived (but tuned) works great for the house shows my band plays and also for recording. One con I can give it is that it is not that small compared to other to carry, and that might be a bit of a hassle for some people/travelling musicians. On my behalf, it's really nothing much as as big as it is it is also composed and looks like it can stand the test of time, even though i've only had it for 2 months (as off now, it has had daily use and has been carried everywhere and presents zero harm. All in all this is just a personall opinion, but if you're starting your first drumset playing some alternative rock style music I would say the Ludwig LW6514SL 14"x6,5" Supralite is something to consider, while I realise it migh not be for everyone

OK
Legendary hard rock sound!
Oleg Komarov 27.07.2023
I have been playing the drums for over 30 years and continue to draw inspiration from the drumming of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden and others. Ludwig's budget snare sounds very much like that unforgettable classic Hard rock drum sound that continues to inspire me. I really like the powerful, punchy, loud sound of the Ludwig snare drum, but it can also sound quiet. Recommend to all hard rock fans who are on a budget.

Perfect snare for me
Lucky Lucky 10.02.2026
I've been playing drums since I was 16. I'm mostly self-taught with a few lessons in basic technique, but over the course of these more than 30 years I've managed to reach a decent level. I play mostly rock and only have gigs a few times a year. During my journey in drumming, I've changed several brands of drums. Some of them were better than others but when it comes to snare, I've had a hard time finding one that completely suits my style and taste. Until recently when I unboxed my Ludwig Supralite 14'x6.5'. First of all, I was won over by the look. Perfectly simple, solid and tight. Something that only manufacturers with many years of experience can do. The sound is something I've been looking for my whole life. Clean and crisp, perfectly responds to high and low tones. In rehearsals it's loud but not too loud, it gives a nice and warm and melodic tone. The only downside is that it has a bit of ringing, but that's more or less typical for 6.5" steel drums. All in all, I highly recommend this piece to all drummers of my caliber who play the style I do.

The Cheapest "Ludwig Sound" on the market
ÖlmezDrums 15.11.2024
There is no denying you get a Ludwig sound out of this drum but surely there is room for some improvement.

As a heavy hitter, playing rimshots even on mid to high tunings causes the screws to loosen. Also when I first got the drum some lugs were kinda jammed, there were no lubrication. And some lugs are overly loose, so it not a consistent build. Though the throw-off is great. Stock heads are just, stock heads... I put a CS Dot and much better. Planning on changing the snare side head too. Snare wires are quite good actually.

Drum is a bit ringy, as Ludwig and steel drums are. Recommend a piece drum honey or similar product just to tame it. Even one large piece doesn't deaden it much, you can safely use 1-3 pieces for an open sound.

Overall a great drum on an affordable price, needs some adjustments anyone can do. Would recommend ✌🏼

A
Exceptional Snare Drum for the price!!!
Anonymous 16.04.2015
Bought this as a temporary snare until my new main snare arrives. I had heard a sample of one of these on youtube a while ago by accident and it caught my ear and led me to search them out. My last steel snare was a Pearl Chad Smith Signature many years ago but i thought it lacked power to be honest really. This snare is fantastic although manufactured in china i believe and not the USA as most other Ludwig drums the quality is great and the sound...... the sound it amazing!!!!. Although a little ringy (which i quite like live anyway) it has a nice fat undertone coming through at any tuning range. For sound samples listen on Thomann or check out youtube they sound exactly as you hear!!! My plan is to sell this one when my new one arrives but i get the feeling i won't want to let this one go. If you are reading this review because you may be buying one of these, buy one you won't regret it they are BRILLIANT!!!!
