Great sound!

This snare drum still carries that great Ludwig tone and its definitely worth buying, especially at this price! I've used this snare for rock, pop, funk and jazz gigs and its served me well in every gig I've used it. I found the snare really sounded great when I changed the stock heads and upgraded the snare wires. A great snare drum for the price.

This is my only snare drum the last one and a half years. The sound is excellent, but a huge problem for me is that it gets detuned very easily. I play with rimshots almost exclusively and there are times that i had to tune between every song. Even the screws on the bottom part. Huge bummer. Now i'm stuck tuning it very high since it's the only way to keep the tension for a bit more time. The small plastic pieces that you put on the screws to keep it from detuning, helped a bunch, but they didn't solve the problem.

Surprising!

This drum is surprisingly good for it's price! A slightly more metallic "ping" in it than in a Supraphonic, but the Ludwig "crack" is certainly there! Recommended!

Really good one!

Really good snare, if you like metal snares - that's the good choice for you. For my taste there is still more metallic feedback sound from it (if you compare with Ludwig Supraphonic), but that's gone if you use some feedback cancelation thing (or some old school tape).

Amazing for the price

Got this snare expecting it to be okay due to it being a budget snare, however, it performs much higher than this. Super nice overtones.

Vintage-Inspired Sound With Excellent Sensitivity

The Ludwig Supralite 14"x5.5" delivers an impressive crack and sensitivity for the price. The steel shell gives it a bright, cutting tone that works great in both live and studio settings, while still offering enough body for versatile tuning. If you’re into old-school Ludwig Supraphonic-esque sounds, this snare really hits the mark. Sound-wise, it easily earns a 5/5.

The snare response is especially sensitive in higher tuning situations, where it stays articulate and lively without feeling choked. In the studio, it performs exceptionally well and cuts through a mix with ease. I’m not fully sure how durable it would be in a heavy touring situation long-term, but for studio work and regular gigging it feels very reliable.

Build quality is solid overall, though some hardware details feel a little less refined compared to higher-end Ludwig models, particularly the throw feels a bit flimsy. Still, for the value, the this is a great sounding snare that punches above its price range.
