Heil Sound PR40

Bought this dynamic mic only a couple of weeks ago, so initial impressions so far only. It's very well built, looks great, but I suggest buying the shock mount which sadly adds £100 to the price. Initial impression is of a very faithful and detailed sound. I suggest you read Paul White's review in Sound on Sound magazine June 2009. He rates it very highly.

Since the above initial impressions review, I'm adding much later that really I found little use for this mic in practice. To me it's really quite brash, and that tends to make it bad for vocals and some other stuff, like guitar cabs, and would be terrible on say violin (which you wouldn't do anyway!!).
For me, it's best use is kick drums and bass cabinets where pretty good. I guess I just don't like the brash nature of its high frequencies! You may do!
