Harley Benton ST-Modern HH TG

I expected something that would need work, new pickups, nut etc.. but this thing is amazing! Totally blown away for the price too.
Action was a bit high but a few adjustments & I now have a metal machine & single coil strat sound that just sounds crystal clear & full. Push pull to switch between humbucker & single coil is great for playing along with different styles. Holds tune perfectly & the pickups are staying!
Love the colour, it has a beautiful roasted maple neck with laurel fingerboard, frets polished & perfect. Everything works & feels like quality components in all areas. Still a bit shocked at how good it is!
I stayed up way past my bed time to keep playing this last night.
Have a feeling all my other guitars will be taking a back seat for a while at least. Can't recommend this highly enough.

I paid £138 for this guitar and when I got it I was incredibly impressed straight out of the box. To cut a relatively long story short though here goes :

The result is a guitar that holds its own against any in my collection or any I've owned including American, Japanese and Mexican Fenders, Gibsons, Yamahas, Sire, Jet and Eart. This instrument now is mind blowing in sound, feel, quality and looks and the total cost around £320! No wonder certain "big name" brands are getting as scared as they are, this is the new level of the new revolution in electric guitars and as a 60 year old player, it's amazing to see and be able to benefit from.

I bought this as a mod platform because I liked the specs. For this it is excellent. The fret work needed some attention, several high frets which I levelled although straight out of the box the neck and feet work is excellent, but I am aiming for perfection with this project! The body is lovely and the paintwork is flawless. The nut is well cut too which is surprising, I was going to fit a tusq nut but this one is very adequate for now. Now the bad points, the pickups sound awful, I don't know what others are thinking when they say they sound great, they don't at all. Others have said that the strings it comes with atlre the problem, however, when I came to try different strings, the tuner on the a string completely shredded it's gear with zero tension on the string. So yes the tuners are made from purest chinesium. I've since fitted gotoh vintage tuners (the holes needed enlarging slightly to take them). A gotoh bridge to replace the original, this probably didn't need doing as the one it comes with is pretty decent to be fair. I've replaced the wiring, pots, selector switch and jack socket, again not ultimately necessary but did it anyway and also fitted a set of tonerider generators which sound fantastic. Now it plays like a 1500 pound guitar. It's amazing! I wouldn't recommend this guitar to buy and own, but if you want a top spec neck and body to tinker with, it's the best I've come accross! It would be better if they charged £200 and gave it better components instead of keeping it cheap and using parts that are not fit for purpose!

It's a steal for the price. I had a badluck with the first one I've got as there were poped out fets so I had to return it but the replacement is immaculate. It's a looker with amazing fretwork polished with no sharp frets, the intonation is set up properly maybe minor tweeks needed but it's totally playable out of the box and has great features like splitcoils and and locking tuners which are practically not seen in this price range. The sound of pickups isn't among the greatest but also they are nothing to be ashamed off. It's an amzing guitar and doesn't break the bank.
