Almost perfect sound, but . . .
HinFrance 14.08.2026
I bought 2 of these, one a B stock, to replace my now more than 30 year old 1x15s one of which had a nervous breakdown at a gig. My plan was to replace the drivers in these cabs with my Celestion 400s as I am using a 600w head and the handling capacity of these two cabs is 500w. Having established that I would have to do some fairly serious work to replace the drivers I have left the originals in for now. They don't actually seem to be bothered by the extra power (they are rated at 500w peak each) and the sound is honestly really impressive. The horns are super crisp, probably the most forward ones I have heard on a bass cabinet - and I like that, otherwise what would be the point of them? I measured the SPL of both these and my old Celestion loaded cabs and these are very marginally louder (around 2db). In short I shall be using them for the next few gigs.
Pros: relatively lightweight (I know 30kgs is not to be sniffed at). They look good out of the box and sound good.
Cons: I have now gigged these twice. It is clear that the covering will not survive the rigours of transportation at all well. Both cabs are marked even though they have not been roughly handled - the covering is simply fragile. But the most important issue is the lack of any corner protection. The B stock one already has one slightly damaged corner. I have ordered a set of corner protectors for next season (our area really only has summer gigs).
Conclusion: happy with my purchase, excellent value and a very crisp sound with the horns switched on. You will need to accept that they won't look pristine for long and you will have to buy some corner protection. Because the sound is the most important thing for a speaker cabinet I heartily recommend these.
