Focal Alpha Twin Evo

After almost 2 months of having these I feel I can finally write a review of them.
These are spectacular speakers and in my opinion nothing can beat them in this price range. If you want a speaker that is well balanced and natural in sound, go on an buy these!

I upgraded from Yamaha HS7 and I feel I made the best choice. Now I can hear the low end clearly and more articulate compared to HS7. The midrange is simply amazing, on like most Focal products, and the top end doesn’t feel harsh, making them perfect for long working sessions. The stereo image is superb. For me, they also sound better than Adam A77X, a speaker that I worked with many times and has a similar 2.5 way design.

I feel that they instantly show if a mix has problems, but if you listen to a well mixed track, boy they do make it shine!

Después de un año, uno de los monitores ha comenzado a fallar y muchas veces no responde a la vuelta del modo standby y tengo que desconectarlo y conectarlo nuevamente de la corriente, y aun así a veces no funciona, es como si no recibiera ninguna electricidad.

Me puse en contacto con el fabricante (focal), el cual tiene un servicio de atención al cliente lamentable. Te tratan como a una basura.

Después de bastantes mensajes, me pidieron que les mandaran el monitor defectuoso, el cual perdieron y no me contestaban a ninguno de mis mensajes. Les escribí en repetidas ocasiones pidiéndoles que, por favor, me ayudaran a recuperar mi monitor. Pero pasaban las semanas y nadie se dignaba a contestar a ninguno de mis mensajes.

Tuve que poner una denuncia en mi país, y aun así nadie hacía nada.

Gracias a que tengo un amigo que trabaja en la compañía de transportes que se encargaba de mi paquete. Después de más de tres meses he podido recuperar mi monitor defectuoso y por su puesto, no ha sido gracias a la ayuda del servicio al cliente de Focal.

Empresa que a día de hoy sigue sin contestar a ninguno de mis mensajes y me encuentro con un altavoz defectuoso y sin ninguna garantía por parte del fabricante.

Ojalá pueda ayudar a algunas personas, para que no pasen por la misma situación que yo.

I bought these as over a month ago as a second set of speakers to complement my Eve Audios SC205 + SC107 (sub) and I really like the Focals for a different perspective.

They obviously don't go nearly as low as the sub, but the midrange is more up-front, compared to the Eve Audio. For some reason they make it easier for me to get the vocals right.

I also like the frequency attenuation knobs, which allow me to dial back the high frequencies.

My only complaint is that all the buttons are on the back, which makes it impossible in my setup to reach the left one.

Ich hatte lange hin und her überlegt ob ich mir neue Monitore zulegen sollte oder nicht. Seit über 20 Jahren war ich eigentlich recht zufrieden mit meinen Genelec 1030 A. Die kannte ich mittlerweile in- und auswendig.
Einziger Knackpunkt: Wenn ich mal mit meiner Band (Elektronik + Gitarren + Gesang) bei mir im kleinen Studio proben musste, dann waren die Genelec sehr schnell am Ende, was die Lautstärke betrifft.
Ja ich weiß, zu laut ist nicht gut, dafür sind sie nicht gebaut, u.s.w. alles richtig.
Aber ich betreibe kein Tonstudio für irgendwelche Kunden, sondern primär für mich und meine Musik, meine Bands und Projekte. Der Raum ist sicherlich nicht optimal, für mich reicht es aber.
Nachdem ich sehr viel Gutes über die Focal Alpha Twin Evo gelesen hatte und mich gegen einige sehr viel teurere Kandidaten entschieden hatte, schlug ich einfach mal aus einer Laune heraus zu und bestellte sie.
Was soll ich sagen? Die Sonne ging auf. Abgesehen davon, dass ich von der Leistung (Power) dieser Speaker absolut positiv überrascht bin (selbst bei einer lauten Probe muss ich nicht einmal an die Leistungsgrenze gehen), habe ich in vielen Referenzstücken und eigenen Produktionen auf einmal Sachen gehört, die ich vorher nicht oder nicht so klar gehört hatte.
Die Monitore geben ein sehr schönes breites Stereobild wieder. Die Bässe klingen satt und kräftig. die Mitten sind angenehm, nur die Höhen musste ich bei mir etwas reduzieren. Keine Ahnung ob das an meinem Raum, an meinen Ohren oder an den Speakern selbst liegt.
Hier kommt ein Kritikpunkt: keine Rasterung bei den Potis für die Feineinstellung. Eine Rasterung wäre echt hilfreich.
Mittlerweile habe ich die Speaker einige Monate im Betrieb und bin rundum zufrieden.
Klar: Besser (und teurer!) geht immer. Aber für meine Ansprüche und meinen Etat war dies die beste Entscheidung seit langem. Bei dem Preis: Schnäppchen!
