The right tool for the job
Jenna 26.08.2015
If you have a USA Fender and you like to make your own adjustments, chances are you'll be needing one of these sooner or later. As allen keys go, there are better, but it does the job fine and is the correct fit. The longer angled section means there's less chance of marring your instrument than if you use a typical sized allen key

Old Stingray Truss Rod
Distant 19.11.2025
I scoured the city and local online stores (including a hardware stores) for allen key that would fit the truss rod on my 1989 Stingray, and finally settled on this one. It does fit, it has such an angle that you have to unscrew the string retainer. I still don't know where to find an allen key that will fit perfectly, also not sure why american guitar makers make life difficult for musicians outside USA, even with such small things.

I mean… You gotta, right?
J-Le 19.07.2026
Got myself a used MIM strat with a replacement Classic Series 70’s style neck, and was sure I wouldn’t need yet another set of allen keys. Turns out the bullet truss rod is the ONLY one in the Mexican line that needs the American-style wrench, so here we go again, huh?

The key fits, turns, is relatively well made (the price tag would suggest something better, but it’s serviceable). So in that sense it’s great. But it *is* still one of those tiny ones that lack any real grip when in use.

Would I have preferred the big T-shaped wrench that is so big it can even be used as a weapon? Sure, but this one already does the trick.

Would I see more sense if it costs a third of what it does, since it’s such a simple tool that seems to carry an insane markup? Well, yeah. Butmaybe Fender sent C&D letters to everyone else who made allen keys this specific sides so now they can charge whatever they want.

What can we do? Fender’s gonna… Fend…?

A
Review Of Fender Allen Key for American/Neck
Andrew822 24.05.2013
It is very handy that Thomann have these sort of items that are simply designed to do the job it is used for. In this case an adjustment tool specifically for the american made fender series truss rod. So if you own one you will need this tool at some point. Each end of the allen key has a useful length so its easy to fit it into the truss rod hole. Works perfect and is a great product don't hesitate to buy.

Works fine

Only reason I bought this is because my used Fender USA I purchased didn't come with it and I can't buy one in a normal hardware store in EU (silly US units).
