Everything in sync
The Elektron Digitakt II builds on the success of its predecessor, evolving into an even more powerful and versatile groovebox, stereo sampler, and drum computer. Equally at home in a DAW environment or at the centre of a hardware synth rig, the Digitakt II retains the compact design and intuitive workflow that made the original so popular while introducing significant upgrades. Its 16 tracks run on an upgraded hardware platform with expanded memory, advanced sequencing capabilities, and stereo sampling. Subtle interface enhancements - including dedicated buttons for Keyboard Mode and Song Mode, as well as a white OLED display - reflect these new features, allowing the Digitakt II to create full compositions, expanding beyond its roots as a drum machine. With its durable, portable design, the Elektron Digitakt II is equally at home on stage or in the studio.
Stereo sampling and sound design
At its core, the Elektron Digitakt II offers 16 monophonic stereo tracks capable of one-shot sampling, loop playback, grid-based slicing, and MIDI sequencing. Five sample playback engines - Oneshot, Werp, Stretch, Repitch, and Grid - enable advanced audio manipulation, from time-stretching to pitch-shifting. Each track includes swappable filters - Multi-Mode, Lowpass 4, EQ, Comb, and Legacy LP/HP - paired with dedicated effects such as delay, reverb, chorus, bit reduction, sample reduction, and overdrive. Three assignable LFOs per track provide deep modulation possibilities, unlocking creative sound design. The onboard memory has been massively expanded to 400MB RAM for live sampling and 20GB of internal storage, with up to eight banks of 128 samples available for step-by-step sample locking. Stereo recording supports up to 66 seconds per sample, providing the flexibility needed for complex soundscapes and live performances.
Features advanced sequencing and trig modes
The Digitakt II leverages Elektron's powerful 128-step sequencer, now enhanced with flexible Trig Modes to expand its beat-making capabilities. Real-time recording captures live input, with Velocity Mode mapping sounds to 16 levels and Retrig Mode enabling note repeats at adjustable rates. Preset Mode maps sounds from the project's Preset Pool across the trig keys, evolving from the Octatrack's Slot Trig mode. Parameter Locking enables per-step automation for intricate sound design and precise rhythmic control. Features like individual track lengths, micro-timing, and Euclidean sequencing unlock even greater rhythmic flexibility. Song Mode simplifies longer compositions, while the expanded LED display makes managing sequences of up to 128 steps straightforward. For external gear, the MIDI tracks offer four-note polyphony, two LFOs, and 16 assignable CCs, solidifying the Digitakt II's role as a versatile and powerful hardware sequencer.
About Elektron
The Swedish firm Elektron was founded in Gothenburg in 1998. The company develops tools for producers, artists, and DJs to perfect their respective crafts. The company's award-winning Overbridge software is designed to seamlessly integrate electronic musical instruments into computer-based DAWs as controllers and as external sound cards. Elektron is continuously bringing new innovations to the market in order to seamlessly integrate music into our day-to-day lives.
Standalone power and DAW integration
The Elektron Digitakt II excels as a standalone hub for DAW-less music creation but now integrates seamlessly into computer-based workflows. Acting as a Class Compliant USB audio interface, it supports stereo audio in/out with computers or mobile devices. Upcoming Overbridge updates will enable multitrack audio streaming and full DAW-based remote control. With its powerful sequencer, real-time performance tools, and intuitive sampling workflow, the Digitakt II remains perfectly suited for standalone beat-making. It can drive external synths, grooveboxes, and effects via MIDI, while syncing drum one-shots, loops, and melodic riffs with precision using MIDI clock. Compact, durable, and weighing just 1.48kg, the Digitakt II is a highly portable powerhouse for live gigs, rehearsals, and creative sessions, combining professional-grade tools with forward-thinking versatility.
