Nice beaters but wouldn't buy this design style again
HarryLTMC 10.07.2020
I purchased two of these beaters to use with a double kick pedal as I wasn't keen on the factory standard plastic DW ones I was using. The Danmar beaters themselves look great, have a nice weight and great feel overall and are made undoubtedly from quality hardwood and metal. I am from the UK and usually go for USA or Japan made hardware so I liked the look of these. My only problem is in the design. The red, wooden beater is wedged into place via notches on the metal pole, supported by a top and bottom metal washer. After only a couple of practice sessions both beaters came loose and are now able to rotate and rattle around on the pole creating excess movement and unnecessary noise. The design makes it impossible for me to remove and re-set the beaters, I tried all sorts to attempt to wedge and fix them but ultimately gave up. I still use them from time to time on the practice kit but wouldn't purchase again unfortunately.

feels very natural, kicks very fat

It is in fact the best wooden beater (plays more easy then the Vic Firth).

But I had a practical problem. I cleaned my basdrumhead before applying a patch for my new beater. I can't use the Danmar anymore because it sticks to the basdrum. Here"s what probably happened : I might have used a cleaner for computerscreens, but this slowly dissolves the varnisch of the beater.
I will buy a new one and only use water and soap. I asked Thomann for advice but they didn't really help with my problem. So maybe this review can save a beater for someone else.
Because ot this hassle, they get one star less.
